Fair Warning

Larry Gelbart, on receiving the Valentine Davies Award from the Writers’ Guild, Sunday night, happily said:  “You will forgive me, if I don’t make this any sort of farewell address. Hopefully, I am going to continue writing until I’m unalterably interrupted. Health permitting, of course. Including any sign of Nate’n Alzheimer’s.”  As for that fu-ture, however, Gelbart reports he recently called a producer to interest him in a project. He left his name, carefully spelling it out to his assis-tant. The young woman then asked: “Just so I can tell him—is this about anything?”  Aw c’mon.
