VH1 is trying to capitalize on one of the most popular Hollywood sites on the Web.
Net has picked up a show that will star celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.
A series of six one-hour specials have been ordered for what is tentatively titled “What Perez Sez.”
Shows will be based on Hilton’s on-site interviews and reporting from the red carpet of large-scale Hollywood events such as the Oscars. Blogger will riff on current celeb foibles as well as offer gossip. World of Wonder is producing.
Despite the topicality, execs said that the shows will be taped, not aired live.
“Perez” has yet to go into production, but debut episode is scheduled to air in the fall from an as-yet undisclosed event.
VHW has a number of Web-derived shows, including “Web Junk 20,” a joint-effort with Viacom sister company iFilm.
Order also continues a move toward putting celebrity-focused bloggers on the airwaves. Time Warner’s Telepictures is launching a syndicated TV show based on company’s TMZ Web site in the fall.
VH1 on Friday also presented at TCA, taking the wraps off “The Salt-n-Pepa Show,” in which the 90’s musicians attempt to reunite.
