Sony TV focuses on South Korea

Office will oversee licensing of Sony product

Sony Pictures Television Intl. will open a TV licensing office in South Korea, to be headed by former Buena Vista Intl. Television head of sales Soojin Chung.

The office will oversee licensing of Sony product to both traditional media businesses and the quickly evolving new media sector.

Chung, who will hold the title of executive director of licensing, will report to Ross Pollack, Sony senior vice president of distribution in Asia. She will also provide assistance in the acquisition of Korean content for the Asian and international markets.

Sony recently pacted with Korean conglom CJ media for the distribution of Korean TV dramas and select feature films.

Sony television’s office will open in Kyobo Tower in Seoul later this month.

“Opening a licensing office in Korea demonstrates our continued efforts to better serve our Korean clients and to offer more choices to our customers throughout Asia where SPTI already has numerous commitments,” Pollack said.
