Al Iraqiya crewman gunned down

BAGHDAD — A cameraman for state-funded Al Iraqiya television was gunned down Monday in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, police said.

Cameraman Amir al-Rashidi was identified by Mosul police spokesman Brigadier Gen. Saeed Ahmed as the latest victim of attacks against journos.Al Iraqiya director general Habib al-Sadr told Daily Variety that at least 75 members of his staff have been killed since he took over the channel in 2005 and 68 more wounded.

Sadr said people working for the channel were being targeted by Al Qaeda and members of Saddam Hussein’s former regime.

Paris-based media watchdog Reporters Without Borders said in a report last month that at least 49 journalists and media workers have been killed in Iraq since the start of 2007 and 200 since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
