History Makers honor ‘The War’

Ken Burns, Lynn Novick will accept award

MONTREAL — PBS mini-series “The War” will receive the award for best program at the first History Makers conference in New York City in January.

Producers Ken Burns and Lynn Novick will be on hand to accept the prize at the event for producers and broadcasters involved in history and current events programming.

Writer and editor Lewis Lapham has been added to the lineup, joining the previously announced David Frost. Lapham will be there for a conversation with Nick Fraser, series editor of BBC Television’s documentary series “Storyville.”

Lapham is the founder of history publication Lapham’s Quarterly and was a longtime editor of Harper’s Magazine. His books include “Hotel America,” “Waiting for the Barbarians” and “Gag Rule.”

History Makers runs Jan. 17-19 and is run by Achilles Media, which also handles the Banff World Television Festival.
