NBC has signed a deal with MSG Entertainment to engineer the first-ever telecast of the annual “Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular,” to be co-hosted by the “Today” show’s Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira.
One of New York’s big holiday tourist attractions, the Music Hall Christmas show celebrates its 75th anniversary in December. Don Hewitt, who was forced out as exec producer of “60 Minutes” by CBS three years ago, will produce the show for NBC.
The one-hour taped telecast, scheduled for primetime in December on a date to be announced, will feature the leg-kicking, toe-tapping Rockettes and elaborate special effects highlighted by Santa Claus flying across the stage in his sleigh.
Negotiating the deal were Jay Marciano, president of MSG Entertainment, and Doug Vaughan, VP of special projects for NBC News and Entertainment. MSG and the Music Hall are divisions of Cablevision Systems.
