LONDON — Dutch state channels Nederland 1, 2 and 3 retained their lead over commercial rivals in 2006, the annual report by Holland’s national television statistics bureau revealed Tuesday.
Nederland 1 and 2 garnered 32.2% of the Dutch audience overall, against 33.2% in 2005. Commercial rivals RTL and SBS took 23.1% and 16.9%, respectively.
In the key 6 p.m. to midnight period, the pubcaster channels increased their stake by 1.1% to 34%.
Holland’s newest free-to-air channel Talpa, which was renamed Tien (10) in December, captured 4.4% of the audience overall and 6.2% of evening viewers.
The top 25 program chart was dominated by summer’s World Cup soccer tournament.
At the top of the chart was Holland’s match against Portugal, which was watched by 8.25 million viewers, more than 50% of the nation.
Holland’s other matches and the World Cup final between France and Italy took the other top four slots.
The only non-sporting event to make it into the top 25 was the final of talent competition “Idols” on commercial web RTL4, which came in at 21 with 3.4 million viewers.
