BERLIN — Leading German comedy and light entertainment producer Brainpool has taken a majority share in D’nA Prods.
The Cologne-based Brainpool took a 75% stake in the company, which is also located in Cologne and seen as one of the country’s main sources of young comedic talent.
D’nA productions include Comedy Central’s amateur stand-up skein “Nightwash.”
D’nA founder Klaus-Juergen “Knacki” Deuser, who also developed and hosts “Nightwash,” will retain a minority share and continue to head the company.
Brainpool also holds a 67% stake in the Cologne Comedy Festival, which offers a major annual platform for amateur comedians to break into the business.
Founded by Deuser in 2001, D’nA produces comedy for TV, stage, radio and CD.
“As a small independent producer, I’ve always seen myself as being on the creative side of the business,” said Deuser. “The partnership with Brainpool gives me the chance to develop ideas faster and offer artists a much bigger audience.”
