BERLIN — Pubcasters ARD and ZDF and top commercial webs RTL and Sat-1 all had cause to celebrate the start of the new season in Germany on Sunday, while most smaller webs, such as Kabel1, were pushed to the margins.
ARD’s “Tatort” got a strong 8.21 million viewers for a 24.6% market share, and the web’s new talkshow host, former newscaster Anne Will, debuted with a solid 5.04 million (18.2%) in the slot vacated by Sabine Christiansen, who stepped aside after a decade.
ZDF pulled in 7.02 million (19.4%) for the meller “Afrika — Wohin mein Herz mich traegt.”
RTL got 3.92 million (12.3%) for “Ocean’s Eleven,” while Sat.1 was able to put recent troubles behind it with a strong opening for new U.S. import “Criminal Minds” (3.08 million/10.2%, as well as 14.4% in the 14-49 target group) and a stellar perf by “NCIS,” which began its fourth season in Germany pulling in a total audience of 4.1 million, and taking 17.6% in the target group.
Kabel1, meanwhile, got just 1.72 million (5%) for detective series “Blackout” and Vox got 2.34 (6.8%) for “Das perfekte Promi Dinner.”
