MEXICO CITY — The three-hour finale of Mexican web Televisa’s version of “Ugly Betty” nabbed the second-biggest Sunday night aud ever in Mexico and trounced Oscar coverage on rival TV Azteca.
“La Fea mas Bella,” Televisa’s remake of Colombian hit “Yo soy Betty, la Fea,” nabbed an average rating of 43 points and a 63% audience share. It displaced the previous No. 2 event — live coverage of the wedding of telenovela actress and singer Lucero.
Top spot remains the 1998 soccer World Cup final between Mexico and Brazil.
“La Fea mas Bella,” which runs with several months lag Stateside on Univision, is the No. 1 show among U.S. Hispanic auds, nabbing shares of around 36%, and is Univision’s best performing telenovela.
Oscars nabbed average rating of 9.5 points for TV Azteca, despite the large number of Mexicans nominated.
