Beta goes back to kids fare

Distrib sells three at Mipcom

German TV and feature film distrib Beta Film has started to once again handle kidvid programming, a staple for the company in the 1990s but absent from its slate since 2000.

Beta announced on Wednesday it will co-produce three toons that it will take to TV marts Mipcom Junior and Mipcom next month.

The 3-D animated pics are “Moonbeam Bear,” based on books published in nine countries; fairy tale fantasy “Princess Lillifee”; and “Chi Rho — The Secret,” a fast-paced skein aimed at children 6-10.

Beta had a strong slate of tyke fare, toplined by animated skein “Pippi Longstocking,” when it was part of the Kirch empire in the 1990s.

In 2000, Beta’s children’s programs were transferred to the Junior TV label, which was sold to EM.TV in 2004 by Beta Film parent Kirch Media.
