‘Romance’ for a cause

Motion Picture & Television Fund hosts benefit

HOLLYWOOD — Using the relationship of Broadway to Hollywood as the premise, the Motion Picture & Television Fund had its third annual “A Fine Romance” fundraiser Saturday on the Sony lot.

Before the performances began, Taylor Hackford intro’d IATSE’s Tom Short who was honored and gave a speech where he noted his union represents the people “who actually work in the industry and not just make it a hobby.”

The core of the evening was about the perfs, which began with Catherine Zeta-Jones proceeded by Hugh Jackman who had flown in from Oz where he’s working on Baz Luhrmann‘s “Australia.”Following them were Vanessa Williams, Shirley MacLaine, Raul Esparza, Kristin Chenoweth, Anika Noni Rose, Dick Van Dyke with Chita Rivera, Jamie Campbell Bower and Jennifer Hudson.

Event, chaired by Jim and Ann Gianopulos, raised over $1 million.
