Upscale designers cater to the commoners

As the price of accessories continues to sky rocket, it’s nice to know that designers and stylists have not forgotten the little people. Or the people with little wallets. Patricia Field—the woman who made us lust after Manolos on “Sex and the City”—has created a line for Payless shoes. Add to that Proenza Schouler’s delicious silk dresses, which are still available on Target.com.

Other promising partnerships abound. Vera Wang, the uber-bridal designer known for her slip dresses, has created a line of $69 frocks for the department store, Kohl’s. They will debut in fall of 2007. H&M will soon announce a new designer partnership, following on the heels of the highly successful link with Viktor & Rolf. Then, there’s always Nicole Miller at JC Penney and Mark Eisen at Wal-Mart. What’s next? Tom Ford for The 99 Cents Only store?
