Susi Wuennenberg, who won several Daytime Emmys for producing events such as memorial coverage from Ground Zero, died Feb 8. of liver disease in New York. She was 45.
Wuennenberg was technical coordinator for the worldwide broadcast of the Prayer for America at Yankee Stadium following the 9/11 attacks. She went on to be coordinating producer for memorial coverage from Ground Zero in 2003, 2004 and 2005, receiving a Daytime Emmy for each of these broadcasts.
In 2005 she also received a Daytime Emmy for the production of “Birthday Live” for The Learning Channel.
From 1996-2000, she served as event producer for the two-hour live national broadcast of the Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center, received four Emmy noms and an Emmy for in 2000.
Born in Madison, Wisc., she served in the Peace Corps in Senegal before entering the public relations business. She ran her own firm, SuSu Inc., which produced programming for corporations including Sony, Apple Computer, Microsoft and NBC.
She is survived by her father, two brothers, two sisters, and her partner, John Fennessy.
