Vet penned TV shows Karloff biography

Screenwriter and author Cynthia Lindsay died May 5 in Santa Monica, Calif. She was 92.

Lindsay started in Hollywood as a stunt double, standing in for Sonja Henie and Claudette Colbert and swimming for Busby Berkeley productions and with Johnny Weismuller and Buster Crabbe. After a horseback-riding accident, she was given a typewriter by Boris Karloff, and became a junior writer at 20th Century Fox. She wrote for TV shows including “Bachelor Father,” “My Three Sons” and “American in Paris.”

Lindsay was known for her Malibu salons, where she hosted many entertainment figures over the past 40 years.

She wrote a biography of Karloff, “Dear Boris” and her other books included “The Natives Are Restless,” “Mother Climbed Trees,” “I Love Her That’s Why” and “Home Is Where You Hang Yourself.”

She was married three times, to Russell Gleason; MCA VP Lou Lindsay; and to actor Robert Patten. Her daughter and son predeceased her.
