TOKYO — Munich-based program sales outfit Tandem Communications signed a spate of TV deals with Japanese companies at Mipcom, the company announced on Wednesday.

Kadokawa Pictures bought “Covert One: The Hades Factor,” a four-hour CBS miniseries starring Stephen Dorff, Mira Sorvino and Anjelica Huston. Company is the video software distribution and production division of the Kadokawa media group, which also owns the Japan rights to the “Covert One” novel series penned by Robert Ludlum.

“Kadokawa is the logical choice for this miniseries in Japan,” said Tandem co-managing director Tim Halkin. “They have internal synergy possibilities, which will support the event character of the program. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with this major player.”

Tandem also inked a deal with distrib Klockworx for “Starz Fantasy Adventure Collection” — four 90-minute fantasy-adventure TV pics, with the first title, “Sands of Oblivion,” ready for delivery in November. The other three titles, “The Lost Treasure of Grand Canyon,” “Merlin’s Quest” and “Houdini,” have delivery dates in 2008.

Another new Japanese partner for Tandem is Amuse Soft Entertainment, which bought the 22-episode action hour “Painkiller Jane” and Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and John Calley’s six-hour miniseries “The Company.”

Halkin said: “We’re finding partners in the Japanese market that understand our international co-production strategy of high-end television event programming, which confirms to us that there is a need for quality programming in Japan and worldwide.”
