Oz terrestrial web Seven has capped a stellar 2007 with exclusive deals for future rights with NBC Universal and the U.K.’s Granada ITV.
NBC U deal formalizes a 50-year casual relationship and blocks CanWest’s Ten Network from sharing NBC U output, as it has traditionally done.
NBC U has delivered “Heroes,” “Las Vegas” and “Bionic Woman” to Seven, while Ten profited from “House” and the “Law & Order” franchise.
New deal covers free terrestrial TV rights to library pics, new and future releases plus TV programming and news.
Seven’s deal with Granada ITV will deliver new seasons of “Life Begins,” “William and Mary” and “Inspector Morse” spinoff “Lewis,” as well as all future programming.
Deal will be particularly galling for Seven’s chief competitor, Nine, now topped by former Granada USA chief David Gyngell.
