Nickelodeon talent maven Shelly Sumpter Gillyard has added casting oversight for teencentric cable the N. She continues with her duties at MTV Networks’ Kids and Family Group.
Promotion comes as the N prepares to relaunch as a 24-hour channel — with much more programming — at the end of the year.
Sumpter Gillyard will be charged with finding new talent, overseeing casting for new and returning shows and handling talent relations for the channel.
She’ll report to Paula Kaplan, exec VP of talent and West Coast general manager of Nickelodeon/MTV Networks Kids & Family Group.
“Shelly is always remarkably plugged into what is cutting-edge among teens and tweens, whether it’s in film, music, sports or television,” Kaplan said. “As a result, she consistently delivers great talent for our programming and events and, most importantly, for our audience.”
Sumpter Gillyard had been VP of talent for Nickelodeon since 2002. She put together talent for events like “The Kids’ Choice Awards” and has also brought in celeb guests to shows such as “iCarly,” “Drake & Josh,” “Zoey 101” and “All That.”
Before that, the exec handled publicity for the Steven Rifkind Co., working on promo efforts for features such as “Sprung,” “8 Heads in a Duffle Bag,” “Hoodlum” and “Girl 6.” She’s based in Santa Monica.
