Graham Yost, Tony To and Jeremy Podeswa have been added to the roster of helmers on HBO’s “The Pacific,” which has begun production in Australia.
The directors join previously revealed “Pacific” helmers Tim Van Patten and Carl Franklin (Daily Variety, July 30), with more to be announced later.
To and Yost also are co-exec producers on the mega-miniseries. Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman, the team behind 2001’s Emmy-winning limited series “Band of Brothers,” are exec producers on “The Pacific.”
Designed as a companion to “Band of Brothers,” “The Pacific” — which comes with an estimated $200 million pricetag — tells the story of three U.S. Marines fighting in the Pacific theater during WWII: Thesp James Badge Dale plays Robert Leckie, while Joe Mazzello is on board as Eugene Sledge and Jon Seda is cast as John Basilone.
Yost’s credits include HBO’s “From the Earth to the Moon,” while To was involved with “Band of Brothers” and Podeswa’s resume includes the pay cabler’s “Six Feet Under.”
DreamWorks TV and Playtone, along with HBO Films, are behind “The Pacific,” which is pegged to a 2009 launch.
