Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton

Duo bring familiarity to Fox sitcom 'Back to You'

Grammer and Heaton visited homes in more than 700 different episodes of television as Frasier Crane and Debra Barone. By uniting these “Frasier” and “Everybody Loves Raymond” stars, the new Fox series “Back to You” will begin its television life with an arguably unique level of familiarity for a sitcom.

That, along with enthusiasm for the pilot script co-written by two other TV vets, Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, explains Fox’s eagerness to make a 13-episode commitment to “You” back in February. The network’s only other sitcom with living, breathing actors is tepidly received sophomore “‘Til Death,” and Fox has to be craving a mainstream comedy hit it can count on for years to come.

The trick is that this may require Grammer and Heaton to somehow be even more compelling than they were as Frasier and Debra. Anything less could create the kind of disappointment that will send viewers another direction: “Back to Reruns.”
