Fox News promotes Joel Cheatwood

Senior VP made his name as local news exec

Fox News Channel has upped veteran TV producer Joel Cheatwood to senior VP of development, reporting to chairman and CEO Roger Ailes.

Cheatwood, who made his name as a local news exec, came to FNC earlier this year after several years developing shows for CNN, including Glenn Beck, Nancy Grace and “Showbiz Tonight” for Headline News.

Before CNN, Cheatwood managed CBS’s owned stations and had stints in Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston and Miami.

At FNC, Cheatwood has developed concepts for Fox News Channel and for the newly launched Fox Business Network. Ailes said he had already made “a tremendous contribution to Fox News.”

Among Cheatwood’s initiatives is a newly announced partnership with ThePalestra.com to air college student-produced news segments on FNC. ThePalestra.com features college-student reporters from more than 100 colleges who produce reports that are edited by an experienced team at Ohio State U and are now offered for airing on FNC and Foxnews.com.
