CME inks deal with MTV International

Media co. to run network's Romanian channel

MOSCOW — Central European Media Enterprises, which runs six successful TV stations in Prague and other regional cities, Tuesday signed a ten-year licensing deal with MTV Networks Intl. to operate the music web’s Romanian channel.

CME will operate the MTV channel through its Romanian outlet Pro TV, which launched in 2002 and has around 10 million viewers. CME did not disclose the value of the deal.

The news follows Monday’s announcement that CME chief executive Michael Garin will leave the company in two years to take up an executive committee role with the Middle East Abu Dhabi Media Co.

Under Garin’s tenure at CME since February 2004 the company has increased in value from $160 million to nearly $5 billion.
