Canadian CEO says Peace out

Peace Arch Entertainment's Howsam resigns

Canuck film and TV production and distribution company Peace Arch Entertainment announced Monday that Gary Howsam has voluntarily resigned as CEO and director.

Howsam has been on administrative leave from the Toronto-based company since Nov. 6, the day after he was arrested in connection with a U.S. federal probe into loans he obtained from Comerica Bank in 2000, when he was CEO of Greenlight Film and Television. He joined Peace Arch in 2002.

Comerica brought a civil suit against Howsam, Greenlight and Peace Arch in 2004, but Peach Arch was dismissed from that suit soon after.

In September, Peach Arch reupped Howsam’s contract through September 2009. Peace Arch co-chairman Jeff Sagansky remains interim CEO.

Peace Arch has grown since Howsam joined the publicly traded company. Its lineup of pics includes “Winged Creatures,” starring Kate Beckinsale, Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson and now in post-production; and “The Deal,” based on the Peter Lefcourt novel and starring William H. Macy, Meg Ryan and LL Cool J.

Peace Arch also produces Showtime miniseries “The Tudors.”
