Getting three helmers to turn up to a party is a usually a feat. But three veterans of Hong Kong’s golden era — Johnnie To, Ringo Lam and Tsui Hark — put their egos aside for crimer “Triangle” and for the Thursday night bash at the Christophe Leroy beach. Party was hosted by new sales agent Dreamachine.
“We are really happy to be here for the fourth year in a row,” said one of To’s entourage. “We’ve been on the same beach every time. But every year it has had a different name.”
Party was a laid back affair. The trio, who have been friends for years but had not previously worked together, share a common passion for big cigars. And while the big boys set fire to their stogies, their stars Louis Koo and Simon Yam fooled around for — and with — the photographers. Guests, who included programmers from the Venice, Toronto and Udine fests, dangled their toes into the sea as they lounged on beachside sofas, but some were kept inside by the unusually heavy surf, an aftermath of the recent storms.
