‘School 2’ holds on to top spot

Disney soundtrack rides three-week high

Disney’s “High School Musical 2” soundtrack held onto the top position on the nation’s album sales chart for the third consecutive week, selling 210,000 copies in the week ended Sunday.

Disc has now sold 1.19 million copies.

New releases occupied four slots in the top 10.

“The Altar and the Door” (Reunion) posted career-best numbers for Christian act Casting Crowns, selling 129,000 copies to debut at No. 2, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Yung Joc’s “Hustlenomics” (Bad Boy) took the third slot, selling 69,000.

Atreyu, which had recorded for Victory, saw its first album for Hollywood, “Lead Sails Paper Anchor,” sell 43,000 to land at No. 8. Ben Harper’s “Lifeline” (Virgin) phoned 41,000 friends to start at No. 9.

With Miley Cyrus’ “Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus” soundtrack selling 58,000, Disney has three of the top 10 discs. The soundtrack to the original “High School Musical,” meanwhile, held onto No. 17, selling 26,000.

Lyle Lovett’s first release in four years, “It’s Not Big It’s Large” (Lost Highway), sold 25,000 to open at No. 18.

Kottonmouth Kings’ “Cloud Nine” (Suburban Noize) sold 14,000 (No. 44), and rapper Aesop Rock’s “None Shall Pass” (Definitive Jux) moved 13,000 (No. 50).

Several of last week’s debuts took significant hits. Talib Kweli’s “Eardrum” slid 61% in sales (24,000 sold) and 18 slots to No. 20; As I Lay Dying’s “Ocean Between Us” dropped 56% (17,000); and Swizz Beatz’s “One Man Band” dipped 66% (15,000) and 35 spaces to No. 42.

Release of a deluxe edition of Akon’s “Konvicted” helped him double his sales to 22,000 and rise 41 slots to No. 23.
