Buble bubbles to top of charts

'Irresponsible' No. 1 in album sales

Despite taking a 32% drop in its second week, Michael Buble’s “Call Me Irresponsible” (143/Reprise) hit No. 1 on the nation’s album sales chart thanks to Mother’s Day gift-buyers.

Buble’s disc sold 145,000 copies in the week ended Sunday – Mother’s Day — according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The standards singer outdistanced Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s “Strength & Loyalty” (Full Surface/Interscope), which sold 119,000 to come in at No. 2. Disc did astoundingly well when compared with their last set, 2006’s “Thug Stories,” which sold 31,000 in its opening sesh.

“Special Occasion” (Island Def Jam) from Bobby Valentino debuted at No. 3, selling 92,000. R&B singer’s debut album also opened a No. 3 but sold nearly twice as many copies.

Mother’s Day sales also aided Barbra Streisand as her “Streisand: Live in Concert 2006” (Columbia) sold 60,000 to open at No. 7. Holiday also gave Carrie Underwood’s “Some Hearts” a 29% bump (No. 8, 57,000).

“Volta” (Elektra/Atlantic) provided Bjork with her first top 10 disc. “Volta” sold 43,000 to open at No. 9.

Last week’s No. 1, Ne-Yo’s “Because of You,” dropped to No. 4, selling 89,000 copies.
