Tom Wopat has joined the cast of Harvey Fierstein and John Bucchino’s upcoming Broadway musical, “A Catered Affair,” which will have a tryout run at San Diego’s Old Globe in September, before opening in New York next spring.
Last seen on Broadway in 2005 in David Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross,” Wopat’s musical roles include the revivals of “42nd Street” and “Annie Get Your Gun,” which earned him a 1999 Tony nomination for best actor.
He will play Tom Hurley, a Bronx taxi driver and father of the bride-to-be in “A Catered Affair,” the role played by Ernest Borgnine in the film version of Paddy Chayefsky’s TV play. Faith Prince, Fierstein and Leslie Kritzer also star in the new tuner.
Producing team is Jujamcyn Theaters, Jordan Roth, Harvey Entertainment/Ron Fierstein, Richie Jackson and Daryl Roth.
