The tuner version of “Little House on the Prairie” has skedded a summer 2008 world preem at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.
Francesca Zambello, currently helmer of Disney’s Broadway incarnation of “The Little Mermaid,” directs. No casting has been announced, although a Gotham reading earlier this year was toplined by Patrick Swayze and Melissa Gilbert, returning to the franchise (this time as Ma) after appearing for nine seasons as Laura Ingalls in the NBC TV skein based on the same books.
Aiming for an eventual Gotham berth, musical version of the American frontier tale has music by Rachel Portman, lyrics by Donna DiNovelli and book by Rachel Sheinkin (“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”). Creative team includes Adrianne Lobel (sets), Martin Pakledinaz (costumes) and Michelle Lynch (choreography).
Guthrie produces the show by special arrangement with Global Prairie Prods. Project has been shepherded by a team of commercial producers headed by Ben Sprecher (“A Moon for the Misbegotten”).
