It’s official: “Sunday in the Park with George” will be part of the Roundabout Theater’s 2007-08 Broadway season.
U.K. import, which took home five Olivier Awards Sunday, begins previews at Studio 54 Jan. 18, and opens Feb. 14.
Show will be produced by arrangement with Boyett Ostar, a co-producer of the West End incarnation, and David Babani, the head of London’s Menier Chocolate Factory, where the revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s 1984 Pulitzer-winning tuner bowed in November 2005 before moving to the West End.
Roundabout produced another Sondheim tuner, “Assassins,” at Studio 54 in 2004, in a revival that won five Tonys. Theater also has presented revivals of Sondheim works “Company,” “Follies” and “Pacific Overtures.”
Olivier winner Sam Buntrock reprises his helming duties for “Sunday.” Cast, which in London included Daniel Evans and Jenna Russell (both also Olivier-winners), has not been confirmed.
