Ann Bannon’s lesbian pulp novels about adventuress Beebo Brinker are coming to the Fourth Street Theater. The Hourglass group will produce a stage adaptation of three of the books under the title “The Beebo Brinker Chronicles.”
Directed by Leigh Silverman, who helmed Broadway’s “Well,” the cast includes Carolyn Baeumler, Autumn Dornfeld, Marin Ireland, Anna Foss Wilson and Obie winner David Greenspan. Production opens Oct. 1 following previews from Sept. 27.
Bannon’s seven-book series was published between 1957 and 1962 by Gold Medal Books. The author is slated to take part in the talk-back session after the Sept. 30 preview. Set in pre-Stonewall Greenwich Village, the play follows former secret college lovers who become entangled with a butch denizen of the New York bar scene.
