The latest offering from Off Broadway’s Culture Project is “Betrayed,” scribe George Packer’s adaptation of his New Yorker article about the plight of Iraqis who have helped U.S. efforts in Iraq.
Pippin Parker, founder and former a.d. of Naked Angels, directs the production, which begins perfs at Culture Project’s SoHo Theater Jan. 25 for a Feb. 5 opening.
Article by Packer, who is a staff writer at the New Yorker, was published in March and chronicled the persecution of Iraqis sympathetic to the American agenda. The play, Packer’s first, centers on the stories of three Iraqis.
List of politically minded shows to be produced by Culture Project include Sarah Jones’ “Bridge & Tunnel,” which transferred to the Rialto in 2006, and long-running Off Broadway docu-drama “The Exonerated.” Current offering at the theater, “Tings Dey Happen,” — a solo show about conflicts over Nigerian oil — ends its extended run Dec. 22.
