Matthew Morrison, Danny Burstein and Broadway newcomer Loretta Ables Sayre are set to play major supporting roles in the upcoming Lincoln Center Theater revival of “South Pacific” starring Kelli O’Hara and Paulo Szot.
Morrison (“Hairspray”) — reuniting with O’Hara and helmer Bartlett Sher after working with both in 2005 LCT tuner “The Light in the Piazza” — will play Joe Cable, the Marine who falls for a young Polynesian woman. Hawaiian performer Sayre portrays the woman’s mother, Bloody Mary, while Burstein (“The Drowsy Chaperone”) plays sailor Luther Billis.
O’Hara (“The Pajama Game”) and Brazilian baritone Szot take on the romantic leads in “South Pacific,” which follows an American nurse’s turbulent relationship with a French plantation owner during WWII.
LCT production, which opens in April, is the first Broadway revival of the popular Rodgers and Hammerstein musical since it preemed on the Rialto in 1949.
