Broadway recovers on the road

Road Grosses

NEW YORK — The road recovered from Week 10’s decline and then some in Week 11 (Aug. 6-12). The 14-show slate grossed a total of $14,583,239, up 11.68% after a 5.98% drop.

Much of the upturn came from the slate’s newest addtion: “Avenue Q” took in $831,292 at the Orpheum in San Francisco.

The Chicago shows gained back some of their missing momentum, proving the Windy City capable of sustaining all four traveling productions.

“The Lion King” returned to an eight-show week, bringing back about $300,000 to the slate.

Even the mighty third company tour of “Wicked,” in Los Angeles, felt the ebb a little, though it’s still the highest-grossing show on the charts. The production closed out the week with $1,655,690.
