U will open its Oz office July 1 with Judd Apatow’s comedy “Knocked Up,” ending the company’s association with Par and former co-venture United Intl. Pictures.
UIP Oz was dissolved in December and Par’s new Oz office, which opened in January, repped U pics during the interim while the new U shingle got on its feet.
Launch of Universal Pictures Intl. Australasia (UPIA), under topper Mike Baard, follows the decision by UPI, headquartered in London under prexy David Kosse, to establish its own presence in Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, South Korea and Russia.
UPIA’s head office is in Sydney, with reps in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
Subsequent titles include “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry,” “The Bourne Ultimatum,” “Evan Almighty” and “Elizabeth: The Golden Age.”
