Mexican media conglom Televisa has purchased remake rights to Dori Media Group’s “Sos mi vida” (You Are the One), the latest foreign adaptation of an Argentine telenovela.
Televisa will produce its version this year, according to the Argentine distribution unit of Tel Aviv-based DMG.
The comedy about an injured boxer and a widowed businessman has sold to more than 35 countries in its ready-to-roll version and as a format to Chile’s Canal 13.
Adrian Suar’s Polka produced the original for Artear-Canal 13, the second-ranked broadcaster in Argentina. It was the most-watched daily program of the year along with revenge novela “Montecristo” on Telefe.
Argentine fiction is seeing a surge in format sales thanks to edgier stories that differentiate them from the competition coming out of Brazil and Mexico. Fox is remaking Telefe’s corruption-laden “Resistire” (Forever Julia) for the U.S. as “Watch Over Me.”
“Montecristo” has been or is being remade for Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Portugal. Televisa has picked up remake rights for the “Cinderella”-like “Floricienta” and sitcom “Amor mio” (Loony Love), both originals of Cris Morena Group and RGB Entertainment.
