The generosity of the Pusan fest was on display Friday night when it put on a flashy dinner for the 27 cash recipients from its new Asian Cinema Fund.
The ACF combines the previously existing Asian Network of Documentary fund with two new programs: the Independent Feature Script and Project Development fund, and the Independent Feature Post-Production Support fund. A total cash award of $840,000 was handed out at the Paradise Hotel garden party.
Some of the winners already have been able to access the coin for post-production on their movies; “Opium War,” from helmer Siddiq Barmak, will now be able to finish with the fund’s support.
Handing out the prizes were folks from at home and abroad including festival topper Kim Dong-ho, Thierry Fremaux, Geoff Gilmore and Pusan mayor Hur Nam-sik.
