Tokyo-based real estate developer Pacifica Malls will open its first multiplex in Sun Mall, a shopping center it owns and operates in Asahi City, Chiba Prefecture, the company announced Tuesday.
Skedded for a March 2008 opening, the plex, located on the center’s fourth floor, will have six screens seating 750. Pacifica will also build a food court on the third floor to serve cinema patrons.
“After a detailed survey and extensive discussions with tenants, customers and the local government, there was a clear consensus that opening a cinema would be the best way to expand Sun Mall’s dominant position as the only destination shopping center in the area,” said Pacifica prexy Seth Sulkin.
Sun Mall is sited in Asahi City, a Tokyo bedtown with a population of 70,000. Anchored by the Jusco department store, the mall has a total of 75 specialty stores.
Founded in 1995, Pacifica Malls works with both Japanese and international clients in developing properties in Tokyo,Yokohama, Chiba, Saitama, Nagoya and Fukuoka.
