STOCKHOLM — Nordisk Film is expanding in Norway by acquiring a share of local production company Maipo, creator of the “Elling” trilogy. The deal is part of Nordisk Film’s strategic focus on local film production in the Nordic countries.
Nordisk has distributed Maipo’s films in the region for a number of years.
The Scandinavian major now will also handle international sales of the production company’s pics. Nordisk Film will be represented on Maipo’s board of directors.
“The importance of local movies is increasing, and thus a local foothold is crucial,” said Michael Ritto, CEO of Nordisk Film.
Founded in 2001, Maipo is one of Norway’s leading production outfits, with annual turnover of approximately $5.6 million.
