Troma Studios topper Lloyd Kaufman has been tapped as chairman of the Independent Film & Television Alliance for a two-year term.
Kaufman, along with partner Michael Herz, has headed Troma since 1974 and produced such titles as “The Toxic Avenger,” “Class of Nuke ‘Em High” trilogy, “Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD,” “Troma’s War” and “Tromeo and Juliet.” Most recently, Kaufman was general vice chairman for IFTA; he also created and chairs its new technologies opportunities committee.
Kaufman was selected Thursday during the org’s annual members meeting. IFTA estimates its 170 member companies produce more than 400 indie films and generate over $4 billion in distribution revenues annually.
IFTA members also elected Michael Ryan of Handmade Films Intl. to vice chairman and Paul Hertzberg of CineTel Films to vice chairman/secretary. Ehud Bleiberg will remain as chairman of the Export Alliance along with Mark Damon (Foresight Unlimited) as general vice chairman and Lewis Horwitz (Horwitz Entertainment Financial Services) as vice chairman/finance.
Newly elected board members include Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard (Lakeshore Entertainment Group); Stephanie Denton (Lionsgate); Nicole Mackey (Fortissimo Film Sales); Almira Malyshev (Screen Media Ventures); Charlotte Mickie (Independent); Barbara Mudge (Worldwide Film Entertainment); and Nestor Nieves (New Line). Board members who have been re-elected to two-year terms include Brad Kembel (Summit Entertainment), Albert Lee (Emperor Motion Pictures) and Andrew Stevens (Focal Point Releasing).
