SEOUL – Korean cult director Jang Jun-hwan of “Save the Green Planet!” fame has been lined up to direct a sequel to megahit “Tazza: The High Rollers.”
Production house Sidus FNH announced that Jang will begin writing the film’s screenplay after a fact-finding tour to casinos in the Philippines. A release is planned for late 2008.
Speculation on a sequel to gambling epic “Tazza” has existed from the start, given that the famous local comic that serves as pic’s source material comes in four volumes, each with entirely different characters and settings. “Tazza 2” will be based on the fourth volume, which centers around the game of poker and sees the action extend to the Philippines and the U.S.
Jang had previously been prepping superhero pic “Fartman” with shingle Opus Pictures. Helmer’s debut “Save the Green Planet!” won a best director prize at Moscow in 2003, and is considered one of the most accomplished debut works to emerge from Korea in the last decade.
