‘Hood’ scoops Swedish Bugs

Children's film wins five awards

STOCKHOLM — Children’s pic “Kids in da Hood,” produced by Peter Holthausen and Pontus Sjoman for Gilda Film, scooped five Golden Bugs, Sweden’s premier film award, Monday. Helmer Johan Brisinger’s debut feature “Suddenly” won the audience award.

Musical drama “Kids in da Hood,” about an illegal immigrant girl who lives in Sweden, won kudos for pic, directors (Ylva Gustavsson and Catti Edfeldt), script (Gustavsson and Hans Renhall), actor (Gustaf Skarsgard, son of Stellan) and original score (Fabian Torsson).

Edfeldt also received the Gullspira Award for contribution to children’s movies.

Critically acclaimed drama “Falkenberg Farewell,” helmed by Jesper Ganslandt, went into the race with four nominations but won none.

Best actress was Haddy Jallow in “Say That You Love Me,” while actress Angela Kovacs won the prestigious Ingmar Bergman Award.

German pic “The Lives of Others,” helmed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, won the foreign language film prize.
