Filmax falls for ‘Nymphomaniac’

Molina to direct erotic tale

SITGES — Diversifying from its mainly horror and animation fare, Barcelona mini-major Filmax Ent. will adapt Valerie Tasso’s best-selling erotic novel “Diario de una ninfomana” (Diary of a Nymphomaniac).

Filmax will produce the film with four-year-old Spanish production house Canonigo Films, whose “El Triunfo: The Beat of the Streets,” played to upbeat reactions in Berlin’s Panorama last year.

Christian Molina, who already directed retro horror pic “Rojo Sangre” for Canonigo, is attached to direct.

Argentine actor Leonardo Sbaraglia (“King of the Hill,” “Burnt Money”) will play the male lede, Filmax chairman Julio Fernandez said at the Sitges Film Festival.

Filmax also took worldwide distribution rights to “Diary,” which rolls Oct. 22 through mid-December.

“Diary” forms part of a posh-porn publishing trend: think “The Secret Life of Catherine M” in France and Melissa P.’s “One Hundred Strokes of the Brush Before I Go to Bed” in Italy.

A Spanish bestseller written by Valerie Tasso, it was published in English as “Insatiable — The Sexual Adventures of a French Girl in Spain.”

The novel narrates the unbridled trysts of an middle-class French girl in hotels, parks, cemeteries, her fall into prostitution, the ins-and-outs of a brothel, and her final redemption.

In a marketing push from mid-September, the producers began a nationwide casting campaign for the femme lede inviting “attractive, bold 18-32 year old girls who want to triumph in movies” to put themselves forward.
