Feng Xiaogang returns to comedy

'The Nobles' starts shooting next year

After forays into costume drama with “The Banquet” and war movies with “The Assembly,” Chinese helmer Feng Xiaogang will return to the genre for which he is best loved in China — comedy — for his next film, “The Nobles.”

Story concerns one of China’s nouveau riche and his attempt to attain a Western lifestyle.

Producers Huayi Brothers said casting had yet to be finalized, but the local media is reporting that the pic will star comedian Ge You and female thesp Shu Qi. Lensing will start next year.
