‘Cleopatra’ returns to Egypt

Director Richard Platt to shoot film in Cairo

CAIRO — Helmer Richard Platt will begin shooting “The Young Cleopatra” on Nov. 4 at Egypt Media Production City, the sprawling studio outside Cairo.

The U.K.’s Stagescreen Prods. will produce. Stagescreen founder Jeffrey Taylor said he is producing the $3 million biopic as part of a “Young Legends” series.

According to EMPC Intl. director Youssef Cherif Rizkallah, EMPC will provide facilities and hold sales rights for the Arab region, with a 25% share in global rights outside the U.K. and Australia.

He said the studio expects more international projects due to the abolition of a duty on film gear imported by companies shooting in Egypt.
