Universal Pictures has moved “Wanted” from a spring to summer berth.
Angelina Jolie starrer will now bow June 27 instead of March 28. Adaptation of Mark Millar graphic novel will go head to head with UA’s “Valkyrie” and Pixar robot toon “Wall-E” the frame before Independence Day.
Pic, first English-language film by Russian helmer Timur Bekmambetov, also stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, and Common. It revolves around an apathetic 25-year-old (McAvoy) who discovers that his murdered father was a member of the Fraternity, a society of assassins with special powers. A woman named Fox (Jolie) lures him in to the Fraternity, which trains him how to use his formerly dormant powers to avenge his father’s death.
“Having seen it, it is just the perfect summer property,” said Universal prexy of distribution Nikki Rocco.
Project is produced by Marc Platt, Jason Netter, Jim Lemley and Iain Smith. Marc Silvestri, Adam Siegel, Roger Birnbaum and Gary Barber are exec producers. Michael Brandt & Derek Haas and Chris Morgan wrote the script.
