Walden Media will produce a yet-to-be-titled surfing film set at Maverick’s in Northern California.
Project’s based on a treatment by Jim Meenaghan and Brandon Hooper, who will produce the film. Daniel Barnz and Ned Zeman will write the screenplay.
Waves at Maverick’s, north of Half Moon Bay, can crest at over 25 feet after a winter storm in the northern Pacific. Project centers on the true story of a teenager, Jay Moriarty, attempting to brave the surf under the guiding hand of local legend Rick “Frosty” Hesson.
Meenaghan’s exec VP of business and legal affairs at Walden Media, and Hooper is an independent writer and producer.
