Kicking off its 64th edition Aug. 29, the Venice Film Fest also celebrates the 75th anniversary of its founding.

Heralded as the oldest film fest, the Lido’s affair with cinema began in 1932 but has missed a few years since, World War II being one of the major disruptions. It’s as true now as it was then: Make movies, not war.
