Tokyo Project announces 38 films

Market offers producers, directors chance to pitch

TOKYO — Tokyo Project Gathering, a market for pic projects operated under the auspices of the Tokyo Film Festival, has announced 38 projects for its third edition.

Skedded for Oct. 21-24 at the Roppongi Hills business, shopping and entertainment complex in central Tokyo, TPG will offer a venue in which directors and producers can present their projects to prospective investment partners.

The largest number of pics, 13, come from Japan. These include “Ugetsu,” from Shinji Aoyama, the helmer of festival faves “Eureka” and “Sad Vacation,” plus “Naked Love,” from helmer Sion Sono, who became an international cult hit for such pics as “Suicide Club” and “Noriko’s Dinner Table.”

Among Hong Kong projects are “Virgin Camelia,” from writer, helmer and actor Vincent Kok, who helmed comedies “Dragon Loaded,” “Super Model” and “Dragon Reloaded,” plus “Tuvalu Project,” from Pang Ho Cheung (“Isabella”).

Korean producer Eugene Lee, whose credits include “Scandal” and “A Bittersweet Life,” will be presenting “Antique.” The helmer attached is Min Kyu-tong, who made 1999 horror hit “Memento Mori” and the 2005 romantic comedy “My Lovely Week.”

Shopping projects from France at TPG will be Catherine Dussart, producer of the Japanese segment of the 11-short omnibus “11’09″01 — September 11,” and Marin Karmitz, producer of Krzysztof Kieslowski’s “Three Colors” trilogy.
