CANNES — “Satanas,” directed by Andres Bais, was named best feature film at the first Intl. Emerging Talent Film Festival Tuesday in Monte Carlo.
The IETFF Wing Awards, hosted by Jennifer Tilly, also honored the Korean feature “Driving With My Wife’s Lover” for directorial effort, actor and cinematography.
Other winners included “Cricket Head” (U.S./South Africa) for short and actress, and “The Cat and Claudia” (Australia) for directorial effort (short).
Damien Alcazar, who starred in the Mexican/Colombian pic “Santanas,” earned the actor nod.
Festival presented 22 films from 20 countries in its official competition at the Grimaldi Forum in Monte Carlo between Sunday and Tuesday. All features are by first-time directors; none have distribution.
Paul Freedman’s Darfur documentary narrated by George Clooney, “Sand and Sorrow,” was handed the Inspiration Award. Presented after the awards ceremony, film concluded the launch of international art campaign “Blood on Our Hands,” which will auction paintings of Darfurian activists’ handprints.
