Fox Searchlight’s Sundance acquisition “La misma luna” (Under the Same Moon) by Patrica Riggen kicks off the 11th Los Angeles Latino Intl. Film Festival on Oct. 7 and closes with Antonio Banderas’ “El camino de los Ingleses” (Summer Rain) on Oct. 14.
At least two pics will have their world premieres at the fest: Ricardo Darin and Martin Hodara’s “La senal” (The Sign) and Adam Schlachter’s “The 7.”
Fest will host the U.S. premieres of six pics, including Ana Katz’s “Una novia errante” (A Stray Girlfriend) from Argentina and a clutch of Mexican pics: Fernando Sarinana’s “Ninas mal” (Charm School), Paul Leduc’s “El Cobrador: In God We Trust,”Javier Patron’s “Fuera del cielo,” (Beyond the Sky) and Simon Bross’ “Malos habitos” (Bad Habits). Animated pic from Spain “De profundis” (From the Sea) by Miguelanxo Prado will also have its world debut.
A glut of shorts round out the program, which includes a retrospective of pics shot by Mexican cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa.
This year, fest’s Gabi Lifetime Achievement Award goes to a thesp from the golden age of Mexican cinema, Ignacio Lopez Tarso.
Also venue switches to the Arclight Cinemas from the Egyptian.
